Product details
AISI 420 is a martensitic stainless steel with high carbon content, known for its good hardness, corrosion resistance, and wear resistance. It is commonly used in cutting tools, surgical instruments, and molds. Key Properties of AISI 420 Steel: - Hardness: Can be hardened up to 50 HRC or more after heat treatment. - Corrosion Resistance: Moderate; better than carbon steel but lower than austenitic stainless steels like 304. - Wear Resistance: Good due to its high hardness. - Machinability: Moderate in annealed condition but difficult when hardened. - Magnetic Properties: Magnetic in all conditions. Chemical Composition: | Element | Composition (%) | | Carbon (C) | 0.15 – 0.40 | | Chromium (Cr) | 12.0 – 14.0 | | Manganese (Mn) | ≤ 1.0 | | Silicon (Si) | ≤ 1.0 | | Phosphorus (P) | ≤ 0.04 | | Sulfur (S) | ≤ 0.03 | Heat Treatment Process:- 1. Annealing: 840-900°C → Slow cooling → Softens the material for machining. 2. Hardening: 980-1035°C → Oil or air cooling → Followed by tempering. 3. Tempering: 150-370°C → Adjusts hardness and toughness. Applications of AISI 420:- - Plastic molds and dies - Surgical instruments & medical tools - Cutlery & knife blades - Pump shafts & valve parts - Industrial machine components Would you like a price estimate or availability for AISI 420 round bars or plates?
